Affordable Housing
On 40 1st Avenue, behind The First Houses, is an enormous parking lot that was given to us to turn into a new type of affordable housing. The goal of this project was to be able to design better living conditions, an affordable building design, and to integrate the entire project with the apartment tower and First houses that also share the block.

The goal of this design was "Beggars can be choosers," in which I created a simple type of concrete shear wall construction and four types of units for four types of people that usually need affordable housing. With each unit having a unique terrace style, people can choose the unit they need and the floor they can live on (If handicapped they could receive ground floor privileges first) Thus turning there choices into the shape and form of the building itself. Not only do their choices matter, but they will designing the facade based on the occupancy and type.
